Putin noted Tereshkova's contribution to the development of Russian cosmonautics


The President of the Russian Federation congratulated the first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova on her birthday and noted her contribution to the development of Russian cosmonautics. Greeting card the telegram was published on the Kremlin's website on March 6.
"Your legendary feat, your enormous contribution to the development of Russian cosmonautics, and your entire heroic biography are rightfully inscribed in the history of our country and serve as a worthy example for young people," the president said in his congratulatory message.
Putin noted Tereshkova's active civic position, significant public and law-making activities. The Head of state also wished her all the best and congratulated her on the upcoming International Women's Day.
The President added that Tereshkova belongs to the illustrious galaxy of brave, strong-minded and devoted people.
The world's first female cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union, Major General Valentina Tereshkova turned 88 on March 6. She was supposed to spend a day in space, and as a result, she stayed there for three days, circling the Earth about fifty times. Tereshkova is still the only woman who has made a solo flight.
