There have been 254 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.

Over the past 24 hours, 254 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 305 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on March 6 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. 19 of the dead were passengers and drivers of vehicles, the ministry said.
As a result of 75 incidents, 45 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 30 outside their area of operation, three pedestrians were killed and 73 more were injured. There are 12 children among the injured pedestrians, and car accidents involving them occurred at pedestrian crossings. In total, 24 accidents involving minors have been registered over the past day, as a result of which 25 young road users, including 12 passengers, were injured.
17 bus accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which one person was killed and 17 were injured. 11 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers. In six cases, such accidents were caused by drivers of other vehicles.
For example, in the Penza region, on the federal highway R-158 Nizhny Novgorod — Saratov, a passenger car driver overook into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a truck. As a result of the accident, the driver of the car ended up in the hospital with injuries, and two more were sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical attention. In the Tver region, on a regional highway, the driver of a passenger car also drove to the side of the road intended for oncoming traffic, where he collided with another passenger car. The culprit of the car accident and his two passengers were injured in the accident. All of them received injuries and were sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical care.
The State Traffic Inspectorate notes that one of the main prerequisites for an accident is a risky driving style and dangerous maneuvering associated with driving into oncoming traffic, which are allowed by motorists. According to the traffic police, last year, more than 10.6 thousand car accidents occurred due to oncoming traffic, in which almost 3.6 thousand people died, and over 18 thousand more road users were injured.
The State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that motorists, when planning long-distance trips, monitor the weather forecast and media information from places of restrictions or possible traffic closures. In case of a negative forecast, strong wind and snowfall, the agency advises to refrain from using personal vehicles for a while, and in urban conditions to use public transport services.
"If you are still on the road, then in conditions of limited visibility and winter weather, especially in the early morning, evening or night, do not exceed the permitted speed limit and Avoid risky driving. Before leaving, always check the technical condition of your vehicle, the operation of lighting devices, wipers, braking system, the availability of tires for the season and the fullness of the fuel tank," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In conditions of snowfall, blizzard, strong wind, ice and limited visibility, the State Traffic Inspectorate urges to slow down and increase the distance, as well as to abandon frequent lane changes, avoid sudden maneuvers and overtaking, strictly comply with traffic regulations related to the start of traffic, lane changes, turns, U-turns and stops. The lives of not only the drivers themselves, but also the lives and health of their passengers and other road users depend on the implementation of all these basic safety measures, the department recalled.
Earlier today it became known that due to an accident on the 74th km of the M-4 Don highway, traffic was blocked along this highway towards Moscow.
