The therapist warned about the threat of computer vision syndrome

The problem of constant use of mobile devices is a serious threat that affects both the physical condition and the psychological well-being of a person. Ekaterina Barbakadze, a therapist and doctor of functional diagnostics at the Dokstarklab Academy, warned about this on Thursday, March 6.
According to the doctor, prolonged use of the screen can cause "computer vision syndrome": dry eyes, redness, fatigue, and decreased visual acuity. In addition, constant focus at close range increases the risk of developing myopia, especially in young people.
In addition, Barbakadze warned that prolonged sitting in the wrong position with the head tilted forward leads to curvature of the spine, neck and back pain.
The therapist also noted that psychological problems may arise. Social media and the constant flow of information create a dependency effect that leads to decreased concentration, memory loss, and increased anxiety. Some users develop an anxious mental state of FOMO, the fear of missing out on important things, which is characterized by constant anxiety and a desire to check their phone every few minutes. In addition, among gadget lovers, phantom vibration syndrome occurs, in which users feel vibrations or ringing, although the phone is actually silent.
"Using a phone before bedtime disrupts the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for sleep. The blue light of the screens suppresses its synthesis, which makes it difficult to fall asleep and reduces the quality of sleep. Lack of quality rest can cause chronic fatigue, irritability, and even depression," Barbakadze said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The specialist added that excessive interest in virtual communication often replaces live interaction with people, which can lead to social isolation and loneliness, and in the long run it negatively affects the emotional state and interpersonal relationships.
The doctor added that people who spend most of the day with a phone in their hands move less. This leads to an increased risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, and a weakened muscular system.
"In my opinion, digital dementia is becoming a direct threat to the continuous use of gadgets," the therapist believes.
To minimize the risks, she recommended that adults limit smartphone use to 1-2 hours a day, and also avoid picking up the gadget during meals and 2 hours before bedtime. The interaction of children and teenagers with phones should not exceed 30 minutes or an hour a day, the expert concluded.
On March 6, Zarina Kurachinova, chief physician of the federal network of eye clinics World Vision Clinic, told Izvestia that the main danger of glaucoma — A chronic pathology characterized by increased intraocular pressure, the development of optical neuropathy and visual impairment is that a person does not feel pain or a sharp deterioration in vision in the early stages.
In turn, Galina Usanova, a junior researcher at the Department of Surgical Treatment of Glaucoma at the National Research Medical Center MNTC Eye Microsurgery named after Academician S. N. Fedorov of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, noted in an interview with the website href="https://aif.ru/health/life/ne-tolko-u-pozhilyh-vrach-usanova-razveyala-6-ustoychivyh-mifov-pro-glaukomu " target="_blank">aif.ru that the disease is increasingly being diagnosed in young people, and sometimes even teenagers. Kurachinova named genetics, high intraocular pressure, vascular problems and stress as its main causes. On February 28, ophthalmologist Elina Santoro said that people who work at a computer for a long time should not wear contact lenses, as this can increase dry eyes and cause redness. href="https://360.ru/news/zdorove/vrach-santoro-ljudjam-s-dolgoj-rabotoj-za-kompjuterom-ne-sleduet-nosit-linzy/ " target="_blank">360.ru .
Earlier, ophthalmologist Tatiana Shilova stated NSN that the main factor in the development of myopia today is in 80-90% of cases, gene mutations, and only then there is a wrong lifestyle.
