Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on March 6 that half of the allocated Ukraine money was stolen from the European Union (EU) and promised to raise the issue of Ukrainian corruption at a meeting of the European Council.

"Half of the money (given to Ukraine — Ed.) has been stolen. We will reopen the issue of corruption in Ukraine in the European Council: after all, we are pouring money in, the EU is pouring money in, and a huge part of it is simply being lost in Ukraine," he said at a meeting of the Committee on European Affairs before his trip to Brussels.

Fico also added that Slovakia would not support the European Commission's initiative to allocate funds from its budget to help Ukraine. According to him, decisions on financial support for the Ukrainian side should be made independently and based on bilateral agreements with Kiev.

"I cannot imagine that when we ourselves are suffering from budget consolidation, we would give a quarter of a billion to Ukraine for military spending, and another half would be stolen from this, there is no reason for this," the prime minister said.

On February 24, Peter Szijjarto, the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, said that the EU countries they want to allocate a package of military aid to Kiev, consisting of €20-40 billion and an "unimaginable" amount of weapons. He stressed that Hungary does not support the idea of unification to spend billions of euros belonging to Europeans on the continuation of the conflict, while citizens have hope for a peaceful settlement.
