Customs officers at Sheremetyevo airport found 10.5 thousand silver jewelry worth about 2 million rubles in the luggage of a foreign citizen who arrived from China. This was announced on March 6 by the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia.

"Using an X-ray machine, inspectors found 273 packages of jewelry in three suitcases of an air passenger, their total number was 10,474 pieces. The specialist has determined that all of them are made of 925 sterling silver," the on the website of the customs service.

According to the detainee, he intended to sell these ornaments in Yerevan. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the smuggling of strategically important goods. A foreigner may face punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 1 million rubles.

On February 25, customs officers at Domodedovo Airport found a foreigner who arrived from Australia in transit through Dubai, Harry Winston brand ring worth 22 million rubles. The man explained that he was taking it as a gift to his fiancee and had not read the customs rules before transporting the jewelry. A criminal case has been opened on this fact under Part 1 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Large-scale customs evasion").
