The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on March 6 on the appeal of French President Emmanuel Macron, who called Russia a threat to Europe.

She said that a new French ambassador was due to arrive in Russia in the near future and expressed doubt about the expediency of such a visit against the background of statements by the French leader. Zakharova also stressed that the ambassador's intentions to develop bilateral relations with the Russian state contradict Macron's words about plans to increase the military budget and discuss the use of nuclear weapons to protect the European Union (EU).

"Macron's speech turned out to be truly springtime. Now it turned out that Emmanuel has the "most powerful" army in Europe. And [the president Of Ukraine Vladimir] Zelensky says he has. It is very important that these two have found a common measurement lesson," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

Earlier in the day, Macron said in an address to the nation that he intends to discuss the use of nuclear weapons in order to protect the entire European Union. Macron also called on the EU to provide itself with the largest amount of military equipment and build up defense capabilities "for the sake of peace itself."

In addition, he said that next week in Paris will be A meeting of the chiefs of the General Staffs of the Armed Forces of a number of countries, which will be devoted to discussions on Ukraine.
