Fraudsters have come up with a new scheme to deceive Russians by offering to rent them a WhatsApp account (owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) for 200 rubles a day. This was announced on March 6 by Andrey Biychuk, director of the Defender MTS product.

According to him, the attackers place ads about the possibility of renting a room in Telegram channels, forums and job sites. When a user is interested in an offer, they explain to him the need to provide temporary access to his WhatsApp account.

"Attackers begin to write to the owner's friends, introducing themselves to them, and may ask them to urgently transfer money, borrow money, or provide personal data. If there are voice messages in the correspondence, they can be used to clone the voice," said the expert RIA Novosti.

Biychuk noted that if criminal acts are committed through the account, The owner of the room will be responsible for the consequences.

It is also emphasized that due to suspicious activity, WhatsApp quickly detects violations and blocks the number, which then becomes impossible to restore.

March 5th scammers began using a bot in the Telegram messenger allegedly on behalf of the Russian Post, which promises users to find the parcel, However, he's actually stealing their money. Law enforcement officers warned that a person first receives a call that he has received a registered letter or parcel. Next, to clarify the address, he is offered to log into the chatbot in Telegram. The data that a person enters for authorization in a chatbot will give attackers the opportunity to further develop the criminal scheme.
