Macron announced an increase in France's military budget without raising taxes

France intends to continue increasing the military budget without raising taxes. This was announced on Wednesday, March 5, by President Emmanuel Macron in his address to the nation, which was broadcast on his YouTube channel.
"We will have to make new budget decisions and make additional investments [in defense], which have now become necessary. These will be new investments that will require attracting not only private financing, but also public financing, without raising taxes," he said.At the same time, Macron called on the French people to support the country. According to him, the Europeans "must act" to protect themselves.
"Our generation will no longer receive peace dividends. We must ensure that our children receive dividends from fulfilling our obligations tomorrow," the head of state noted.
Earlier in the day, the French leader said he intended to discuss the use of nuclear weapons in order to protect the entire European Union (EU). Macron also called on the EU to provide itself with the largest amount of military equipment and build up defense capabilities "for the sake of peace itself." In addition, he said that next week in Paris will be a meeting of the chiefs of the General Staffs of the Armed Forces (AF) of several countries, which will be devoted to discussions on Ukraine.
