A powerful M-class flare (the penultimate in power) occurred on the sun on March 5, it was reported on site Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG).

It is specified that the outbreak occurred in the afternoon, at 14:50 Moscow time, and lasted nine minutes.

Class M outbreaks are average among large ones. On the day side of the Earth, they are capable of causing small to moderate radio interference, and some of these flares can lead to a solar radiation storm. In addition, they are sometimes accompanied by ejections of the coronal mass of the star, which causes a geomagnetic storm, during which residents of the middle latitudes are highly likely to see the northern lights.

Earlier, on February 25, the sun threw out the largest plasma cloud in 2025. According to preliminary data, it is moving away from the Earth. According to the study, the source of the explosion is located on the far side of the Sun, thus it cannot affect the Earth in any way.
