The program "Beauty is given to you by nature ..." as part of the cycle "Evenings in the English Hall" was held on March 5 at the St. Petersburg House of Music. According to Sergey Roldugin, People's Artist of the Russian Federation and artistic director of the St. Petersburg House of Music, poetry and music were emotionally connected at the event.

Theater actor, People's Artist of Russia Nikolai Burov read sonnets by the English poet and playwright William Shakespeare at a musical and poetic evening, and Roldugin performed the "Violin Sonata" by the French composer Louis Francker and the "Fifth Sonata for Cello and Basso Continuo" by the Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi on the cello.

The piano part was performed by Andrey Telkov, a pianist and a laureate of international competitions.

"Shakespeare dedicated it to women. Everything that the poet wrote is still connected with women, just like the whole world. Therefore, we can assume that this is all dedicated to women, although all aspects of human life are affected, as, in fact, it should be. Today, there will also be music, and the music should at least somehow illuminate, and confirm or contradict what is written in the sonnets. Therefore, there must be some kind of connection, at least an emotional connection between the selected sonnets and the selected music," Sergey Roldugin shared.

Nikolai Burov, for his part, recalled that the evening was dedicated to International Women's Day. The artist noted that both Shakespeare and Francoeur and Vivaldi devoted most of their work to women. A translation of the sonnets by the Soviet poet Samuel Marshak was chosen for reading, which, as Burov emphasized, was composed very carefully and masterfully.

"Evenings in the English Hall" is a series of chamber concerts by the St. Petersburg House of Music, which has been held since 2011 on its native stage — in the pearl of the Alekseevsky Palace.
