The United States will not support the UK if London decides to send troops to Ukraine, and Russia will strike at them. Military expert Alexei Leonkov shared this opinion with Izvestia on March 5.

The day before, the American magazine The National Interest said that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer intends to send troops to Ukraine to apply the fifth article of the NATO Charter, according to which the remaining members of the alliance will be obliged to intervene in the conflict. Thus, according to journalists, Starmer intends to involve the United States in the Ukrainian crisis.

"The President of the United States Donald Trump said that if this happens, then no action of the fifth article will be considered. This was said when the Poles wanted to lead the contingent, when the French leader [Emmanuel] Macron was going to send his foreign legions. Everyone from the US side was given such an explanation," Leonkov said.

In addition, he stressed, Russia has already warned all the countries of the NATO bloc that it will consider any deployment of a NATO contingent to Ukraine, no matter what its name is — peacekeeping, volunteer, and so on — as a direct threat to its national interests and intervention in the zone of a special military operation. So, any contingent will be destroyed.

"Starmer is trying to pretend that he has not heard the US position, trying to get some kind of support in order to start a big conflict. This is a provocation against the background of the beginning of the negotiation process between Russia and the United States, the UK wants to influence him in some way, but I don't think such attacks will somehow stop him," the source concluded.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on February 26 also ruled out the participation of the Polish army in a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. Then he stressed that Warsaw intends to use frozen Russian assets again to help Kiev.

The leader of the right-wing "National Union" faction in the French parliament, Marine Le Pen, in turn, on March 3 href="https://iz.ru/1848294/2025-03-03/le-pen-nazvala-bezumiem-otpravku-frantcuzskikh-voennykh-na-ukrainu " target="_blank">called madness the idea of sending French troops to Ukraine. She stressed that the participation of French troops is possible only within the framework of a peacekeeping mission under the auspices of the United Nations.
