Large banks in Russia "repel" more than 99% of fraudulent attacks on citizens. This was announced on March 5 by the head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Elvira Nabiullina, at a meeting of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with members of the government.

"Our task is to set the bar for requirements for anti-fraud systems of banks, or as they are called, "anti-fraud systems" of banks, and to help those banks that, as they say, cannot yet take this bar. Now, according to estimates, large banks "repel" over 99% of cyber fraud attacks on citizens," she noted.

Nabiullina recalled that since the middle of 2024, a law has been in force that obliges banks to suspend transfers to accounts from the database of fraudulent transactions for two days, which is constantly being updated. In addition, banks and the Interior Ministry provide the Central Bank with information about suspicious transactions.

"This is called the cooling off period, it's enough for a person to come to his senses and figure everything out. Every month, banks suspend 300,000 transfers to such suspicious accounts. If the bank allowed such a transfer, did not freeze it for two days and did not warn the client about the danger, it must reimburse the client's losses," she concluded.

In December 2024, the Central Bank announced that banks in the third quarter of 2024 href="https://iz.ru/1804383/2024-12-09/banki-v-rossii-otrazili-161-mln-atak-moshennikov-v-iii-kvartale-2024-goda"> We protected our clients from 16.1 million attacks by online scammers, preventing them from stealing 4.9 trillion rubles. At the same time, they reported that the fraudsters still managed to steal 9.3 billion rubles in July – September.
