New grape varieties have been introduced in Russia

In 2024, specialists from the State Export Commission completed another multi-year testing cycle of 96 grape varieties, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture said on March 5.

The press service noted that according to the test results, 10 new varieties were entered into the State Register, 9 of which relate to the achievements of domestic breeding. "Valentina", "Zolotce", "Shatilov's Gift", "Sukholimansky Bely" and other promising varieties are adapted to cultivation in the climatic conditions of our country, have high yields, are resistant to diseases and pests.

For example, breeders of Eastern Siberia have developed the Siberian Potapenko variety, which withstands frosts and is not susceptible to diseases. The grapes "Solaris Tamansky", registered in the North Caucasus, are excellent for the production of high-quality dry wines.

The main part of the developments was focused on enterprises and research centers in the southern regions of Russia. In addition, breeding achievements of interest to the central part of the country, the Urals and Siberia were included in the State Register.

On December 17 last year, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported, that the national standard GOST R will enter into force on April 1, 2025 "Catering services. Recommendations on the development, design and content of wine lists". GOST, which for the first time describes in detail the best practices for the design of wine lists at catering establishments, was approved by order of Rosstandart on November 11. Representatives of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia, the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia (ABVR), as well as other specialists directly participated in its development.
