A court has sentenced a British mercenary to 19 years in prison for crimes against civilians in the Kursk region. This was announced on March 5 by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Telegram channel.

It is specified that James Scott Rhys Anderson, a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, was found guilty of committing a terrorist act in the Kursk region and mercenary activities.

According to the investigation, Anderson participated in the armed conflict as a mercenary, receiving financial remuneration for this. In November last year, as part of the Armed Formations Of Ukraine (VFU), he illegally invaded Russian territory, where he committed crimes against civilians.

The court ordered Anderson's imprisonment for a term of 19 years. At the same time, he will serve his sentence in prison for the first five years, and the rest of the time in a high—security penal colony.

Earlier, on January 15, the Leninsky District Court of Kursk arrested a mercenary from Colombia on charges of invading the Kursk region.
