In Russia, the number of repeat crimes decreased by 17% in 2024. This was announced on March 5 by Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev at an expanded meeting of the department's board with the participation of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

He pointed out that in order to improve the control of supervised persons, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the government, Moscow is testing a special mobile application.

"The possibility of using hardware and software systems for photo and video recording and video analytics is also being studied. As a result of these and other measures, we see that by the end of the year, the number of crimes committed by previously convicted persons decreased by 17%," Kolokoltsev said.

The Minister drew attention to the fact that video surveillance equipment in 2024 helped to detain 4,500 suspects. Law enforcement officers have made extensive use of the capabilities provided by intelligent facial recognition systems.

Kolokoltsev said that during the year, Interior Ministry officers detained 38,000 suspects and accused who were hiding from the bodies of inquiry, investigation or trial, and also found out where about 6,000 missing people were. In addition, within the framework of cooperation with other states, it was possible to detain about 2.5 thousand people who were put on the wanted list by the structures of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
