The Committee of Automobile Manufacturers predicted a decline in the car market

February confirmed the forecasts of market participants for the first half of 2025, said Alexey Kalitsev, Chairman of the Committee of Automobile Manufacturers. According to him, such factors as increased recycling fees, high cost of loans and reduced availability, as well as changes in the tax system led to a reduction in sales.
"In the near future, the trend towards a reduction in sales is likely to continue. Nevertheless, we have high hopes for leveling the situation and adjusting the market in the second half of the year by supporting demand from the government," said Kalitsev.
The AEB confirmed the previously announced forecast of 1.4 million cars sold in 2025. According to the Committee of Automobile Manufacturers, total sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in February 2025 amounted to 79,941 units, taking into account alternative supply channels.
On March 4, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation published automotive sales statistics for January–February 2025 in Russia. Sales of passenger cars amounted to 165.9 thousand units, which is 10% less than in the same period last year. Separately, 77.3 thousand new passenger cars were sold in February, which is 25% less year-on-year.
In the first two months, sales of light commercial vehicles decreased by 8% (to 15.8 thousand units), trucks — by 40% (to 10.5 thousand units), and buses — by 49% (to 1.6 thousand units).
