EU points to change in US stance on Ukraine ahead of European summit

An emergency summit of the European Union (EU) countries on Ukraine in Brussels on 6 March will be held in the context of the changed position of the USA on the Ukrainian issue. This was announced by a senior representative of the organization at a briefing ahead of the summit on 5 March.
"The context of the emergency summit: the situation in Ukraine taking into account the US position, which has changed. This is the starting point," TASS quoted him as saying.
In particular, according to the official, Europe takes into account that the US side is already in talks with Russia that could affect the situation in Ukraine. Brussels sees that Washington intends to develop these contacts, the EU official added.
At the same time, he noted that the organizations were not going to change their approach following the United States. Under the new conditions, European heads of state will need to discuss at the summit the strengthening of European defense and support for the Kiev regime within the framework of the concept of "peace through strength".
Earlier in the day, Politico reported that the EU fears the disruption of the meeting by a group of leaders led by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. According to Politico, events at the summit could develop in several directions, noting that a confirmation of Kiev's path to EU membership is possible. A draft version of the final statement prepared ahead of the summit says that the EU is obliged to "continue to provide Ukraine with regular and predictable financial assistance"
