A resident of the Belgorod region mistakenly mistook a call from Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov for the actions of fraudsters. The head of the region announced this on March 5 in his Telegram channel.

Gladkov said that after the report of the heads of municipalities on the restoration of housing damaged as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces Of Ukraine (APU), he decided to selectively call the residents of the region to check how the restoration work is going.

"I managed to get through to someone, but not to someone. Someone picks up the phone suspiciously," he wrote.

According to the governor, one of the residents of Belgorod mistook him for a fraudster. She later apologized for the misunderstanding, but Gladkov assured her that the reaction was completely justified.

The governor also added that he had not requested any personal data, but was only interested in whether everything had been restored properly.

On February 8, Artemy Ponomarev, Sberbank's product director, said that phone fraudsters often can be recognized by special phrases and scenarios which they resort to while talking to the victim. The expert mentioned lottery win messages as one of the most common tricks. The second popular way to deceive Russians is to play out a scenario about "router problems" with the victim.
