The United States is ready to accept Greenland into its membership if its people express such a desire. About this the president Donald Trump said on March 4 during his speech to Congress, which was videotaped on the White House YouTube channel.

Washington urged the people of Greenland to decide on their future and join the United States.

"We strongly support your right to determine your own future. If you choose, we will be glad to see you in the United States of America," he said.

He also announced plans to raise Greenland to heights it had never even dreamed of before.

Before that, on February 6, it was reported that Greenland's ruling party Siumut ("Forward") plans to href="https://iz.ru/1835199/2025-02-07/praviashchaia-v-grenlandii-partiia-namerena-initciirovat-golosovanie-o-nezavisimosti " target="_blank">hold a vote on independence after the general elections on March 11. The main issues of the election campaign were Greenland's desire for independence and its relations with Denmark and the United States under the administration of the President of the United States Donald Trump, who has repeatedly expressed a desire to get a strategically important island.

Earlier, on January 31, The Examiner newspaper reported on Trump's proposal href="https://iz.ru/1831551/2025-01-31/smi-uznali-ob-idee-nato-predlozhit-trampu-rasshirit-prisutstvie-v-arktike"> expand NATO's military presence in the Arctic. According to sources, the alliance believes that strengthening NATO's presence in the Arctic can satisfy security interests while ensuring U.S. participation in the new initiative.
