About 10,000 ads for the sale of meat and fish products without documents have been posted on social networks, messengers and online platforms. At the same time, about 1.2 thousand are displayed on websites that check the availability of veterinary certificates and other accompanying documentation, Izvestia estimated.

The cost of products of our own production varies from 350 rubles to 2 thousand rubles for canned food, from 400 rubles to 4 thousand rubles for meat and poultry carcasses, from 500 rubles to 10 thousand rubles for fish and seafood.

It follows from the published offers that the majority of sellers are farmers, hunters and fishermen. Some posts have more than 5 thousand views. Customers also leave dozens of reviews.

The demand for handmade goods is due to both the popularity of online resources where ads are placed and the trend for environmentally friendly products, said Oleg Pavlov, head of the Public Consumer Initiative.

"The buyer trusts the product made at home more. Allegedly, it does not contain harmful additives and is of better quality than factory products. This can lead to poisoning and other diseases," the expert noted.

Alexander, a resident of the Moscow region, reported a case of poisoning with home-made products. In August 2024, he ordered poultry meat through a social network.

"The classic symptoms of poisoning have appeared. I spent two days recovering and taking medicine. When I wrote to the seller, he began to assure me that the product could not be of poor quality, and then he added me to the blacklist altogether," the victim said.

A similar case occurred in 2023 with a resident of Yekaterinburg, who bought raw meat through a messenger. After consuming it, she began to have fever and vomiting, after which the woman called an ambulance.
