In the Ukrainian city of Lviv, authorities have banned the sale of books in Russian and Soviet badges at the second-hand book market near the monument to the printer Ivan Fedorov. This was announced by the Lviv City Council on Tuesday, March 4.

Russian Russian City Council website quotes a local official as saying, "We have decided to categorically ban the sale of anything in Russian: the sale of books by Russian authors, the sale of books in Russian, except for technical books translated into Ukrainian, the sale of any Soviet symbols: badges, emblems, pennants."

Surveillance cameras will be installed at the fair to monitor the ban, and contact numbers for customer complaints will be posted. The territory of the book market will also be bypassed by officials.

Earlier, on January 30, the language Ombudsman Of Ukraine Taras Kremen complained about the Russian language on the country's television broadcasts.

Prior to that, on January 28, Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko stated that the youth in the country href="https://iz.ru/1829870/2025-01-28/politolog-zaiavil-o-perekhode-ukrainskoi-molodezhi-na-russkii-iazyk " target="_blank">started speaking Russian mostly, especially in large cities. He argues that the active promotion of Ukrainian paradoxically contributes to the strengthening of Russian in Ukraine in the long term.
