Trump threatened Canada with an increase in duties

The American president Donald Trump stated that The United States will immediately increase duties for Canada in the event of retaliatory measures to tariffs from Washington. He announced this on March 4.

"Please explain to the Governor of Canada, Trudeau (Prime Minister. — Ed.) [to Justin Trudeau] that when he introduces a retaliatory tariff against the United States, our retaliatory tariff will immediately increase by the same amount," Trump said on the Truth Social network.

Since March 4, 2025, the United States has sharply increased duties on goods from China, Mexico and Canada.
