- Trudeau called the introduction of US duties the beginning of a trade war against Canada

The United States of America announced the beginning of a trade war against Canada by its decision to impose duties. This was announced on March 4 by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada, its closest partner and ally," Trudeau told reporters, as quoted by the agency href="https://www.reuters.com/world/canada-is-imposing-25-tariffs-30-bln-us-imports-says-trudeau-2025-03-04/ " target="_blank">Reuters.
The Prime Minister noted that Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs of 25% on American goods worth 155 billion Canadian dollars ($107.4 billion). Trudeau added that Canada intends to challenge the US measures at the World Trade Organization and within the framework of the trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada.
If the U.S. tariffs remain the same, Canada will impose a 25% tariff on U.S. imports of another 125 billion Canadian dollars over 21 days.
Earlier, on February 27, Donald Trump threatened Europe with tariffs and refusal to protect it. He announced the introduction of US duties of 25% on goods from the European Union.
