In the defensive battles that took place northeast of Lake Balaton in Hungary on March 21, Soviet soldiers showed high combat skills and bravery. This is reported by the newspaper Izvestia.

So, the battery of self-propelled guns of senior Lieutenant Kocherga burned and knocked out eight enemy tanks. At the same time, a group of Germans attacked the wounded company commander, Lieutenant Bakhrushin, but he was helped by the Red Army soldier Solodky, who destroyed several Germans.

"Senior Lieutenant Kocherga's battery of self-propelled guns engaged 14 German tanks, burned and knocked out eight enemy tanks. In a night battle, the wounded company commander, Lieutenant Bakhrushin, was attacked by a group of Germans. Solodky, a Red Army soldier, hurried to the rescue of his commander. The brave fighter shot three Nazis, and stabbed two with a bayonet. Solodky safely delivered the lieutenant to the medical center," the newspaper reported on March 21, 1945.

There were exactly 49 days left until the Great Victory.

In addition, the Red Army soldier Ivan Skorodumov, while repelling an enemy attack, jumped on a German tank, which had an open hatch. As indicated in the publication, he killed the German tankers with a burst from a machine gun and brought the tank to his unit.

The material was published as part of the Izvestia special project "80 days to Victory."
