Soviet intelligence officers reached the Baltic Sea


On March 16, scouts from Colonel Nikolai Rogov's unit were the first to reach the Baltic Sea near Kezlin, the Izvestia newspaper reports. During that day, our troops occupied Pokarben, Tengen, Scheuschen, Wesdelen, Kranzberg, Stobeken, Fuchsberg, Jarfttal, Freudenthal, Frenselswalde and Herzogswalde.
There were exactly 54 days left until the Great Victory.
On March 16, more than 700 German soldiers and officers were captured southwest of Konigsberg, the newspaper reports.
"There are local battles and scouts searching in other sectors of the front. On March 16, 113 German tanks were shot down and destroyed on all fronts. 65 enemy planes were shot down in air battles and by anti—aircraft artillery fire," Izvestia correspondents report.
