Former prisoners of war of the allied countries, including the USA, Great Britain and France, released by the Red Army, were repatriated from Odessa. Izvestia writes about this.

Two camps were set up in Odessa for the repatriation of soldiers and officers. They were placed in the best rooms of the city, for example, in the sanatorium of the People's Commissariat of Health named after Dzerzhinsky.

"Local Soviet authorities, the public and representatives of the authorized Council of People's Commissars of the USSR for repatriation showed great concern for the soldiers of the allied countries who were liberated from nazi captivity by the victorious Red Army. Camp residents feel this concern at every step. Soviet Odessa, itself recently liberated from the fascist yoke, warmly welcomed the guests. In the sanatoriums where they are located, a heating system and additional kitchens were built in a short time," the newspaper reported on March 13, 1945.

There were exactly 57 days left until the Great Victory.

The prisoners of war camp was provided with everything they needed: food, cultural services, and so on. Among those who arrived in the first echelons were the wounded and sick, they were placed in the best hospital under the supervision of first-class specialists, the newspaper said.

The material was published as part of the Izvestia special project "80 days to Victory"
