- The Red Army attacked the Veszprem railway junction during the battles near Lake Balaton

In Hungary, northeast of Lake Balaton, German troops continued their attacks with the help of large forces of tanks - they planned to break through to the Danube River. On March 8, 70 German tanks were shot down and destroyed in the fighting in this area. This is reported by the newspaper Izvestia.
"On March 8, 128 German tanks were shot down and destroyed on all fronts. 61 enemy aircraft were shot down in air battles and by anti-aircraft artillery fire. <...> On the night of March 9, our heavy bombers struck the Veszprem railway junction in Hungary. There were a large number of trains at the railway junction during the bombing," the March 10, 1945 edition says.
There were exactly 62 days left until the Great Victory.
As a result of the bombing, fires broke out at the railway junction, which were accompanied by strong explosions.
The material was published as part of the Izvestia special project "80 days to Victory."
