The Germans lost important strongholds


The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, overcoming enemy resistance in difficult conditions of mountainous and wooded terrain in the Carpathians, occupied the town of Banska Shtyavnitsa in Czechoslovakia, the Izvestia newspaper reports.
In addition, Soviet troops liberated the settlements of Sasa, Babina, Kolpakhi, Godrusha and Gvozdnitsa. On the same day, the troops of the 2nd Belorussian Front captured the towns of Gnev and Starograd, which were inaccessible to the Germans, as well as about 200 other settlements.
"Retreating under the blows of our troops, the enemy is suffering heavy losses. During the day, the front's troops captured trophies, including 44 guns, 80 mortars, 14 railway trains and 500 vehicles," the newspaper reports.
There were exactly 63 days left until the Great Victory.
The troops of the 1st Belorussian Front, continuing their offensive, liberated important enemy strongholds on the outskirts of Stettin, and occupied more than 50 other settlements with battles.
