The suspect in the murder of the head of the Altai region tried to commit suicide

A 45-year-old man suspected of murdering the head of the Zavyalovsky district of the Altai Territory, Nikolai Onishchenko, attempted suicide after committing the crime. This was reported on March 4 in the investigative department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation for the region.
The suspect is currently in a medical facility.
"On the afternoon of March 4, 2025, in the village of Zavyalovo, a detainee fired a shotgun at the head of the district, and then tried to commit suicide in his car," it is noted on on the agency's website.
According to preliminary data, the reason for the murder could be a conflict over the dismissal of the suspect from the post of director of a local medical and wellness complex.
Earlier on March 4, the SU IC of Russia in the Altai Territory reported that Onishchenko shot while leaving the cafe. A criminal case was opened on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder").
The CCTV footage, which was published by Izvestia, shows Onishchenko is walking past parked cars when a man with a gun is heading his way. The head of the district tries to escape, but immediately falls between two cars.
