In Serbia, the opposition lit smoke bombs during the parliamentary session

In Serbia, deputies of opposition parties lit smoke bombs and started a fight in the meeting room during the first spring session of parliament. This was reported on March 4 by the agency Tanjug.

The reason for the riots was the approval of the agenda, including a vote of confidence in Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic. Despite the fact that the room was covered with smoke, the deputies took out handkerchiefs and continued the meeting.

In addition, someone poured water on Brnabic, after which a fight broke out between the deputies. It is reported that three people were hospitalized.

Commenting on the incident to Izvestia, State Duma deputy, Chairman of the Council of the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization Eurasia Alyona Arshinova said that Serbia had fallen into a serious political crisis.

"The protests in Serbia have been going on for four months and are steadily gaining momentum. The tragedy at the Novi Sad train station has launched an irreversible opposition process that has engulfed hundreds of thousands of Serbs. The core of the protesters consists of students from the largest universities in the republic. Roads, bridges, and administrative buildings are being blocked," she said.

She added that, being surrounded by NATO countries, the Serbian authorities should have "kept their finger on the pulse," but they did not. In this regard, the country has fallen into a serious political crisis.

Nevertheless, the government still has chances to stabilize the situation, but the situation is becoming more difficult every day, the deputy concluded.

After the collapse the canopy of the railway station in the city of Novi Sad on November 1, 2024, as a result of which 14 people were killed, and representatives of the opposition began to organize demonstrations in different cities of the republic.

Serbian authorities November 2 was declared a day of mourning for the dead.
