Sales of new passenger cars in Russia decreased by 10% since the beginning of the year


Sales of new passenger cars in January-February 2025 in Russia amounted to 165.9 thousand units, which is 10% less than in the same period last year. Separately, 77.3 thousand new passenger cars were sold in February, which is 25% less year-on-year. This follows from the data of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, which was reviewed by Izvestia.
Sales of automotive equipment in other segments also declined. Sales of light commercial vehicles in the first two months decreased by 8% (to 15.8 thousand units), trucks — by 40% (to 10.5 thousand units), and buses — by 49% (to 1.6 thousand units).
In total, 193.9 thousand vehicles of different classes were sold in Russia in January-February, which is 12% lower than last year, when 221.3 thousand vehicles were sold in the country in the first two months (the calculations take into account vehicles under the age of three).
At the same time, the market for new cars produced in the Russian Federation amounted to 101.4 thousand units (+6% compared to the same period last year). The market for new electric vehicles immediately decreased by 60% (to 1,468 units), of which the share of those manufactured in the Russian Federation was 23%.
"Macroeconomic factors, in particular, high car loan rates, continue to have a significant impact on market dynamics. At the same time, the February market decline (-27% month—on—month) is more typical for imported cars - 42.8 thousand foreign cars were sold during the month, 40% less than in the same month last year," the Ministry of Industry and Trade noted.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that in February 2025, 26.7 thousand new Lada passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia. This is 28.4% more than in January of this year. Compared to February 2024, sales figures decreased by 4%.
