In St. Petersburg, biometrics payment was launched at two metro stations. The pilot project includes the Gostiny Dvor and Ploshchad Vosstaniya stations, the Smolny press service reports.

According to Governor Alexander Beglov, quoted by the TV channel "78", this was an important step in improving the comfort and speed of passenger service, and the city began a new stage of innovation in the public transport system. Beglov promised the appearance of biometric payments at other metro stations.

In order to use this service, passengers must register in the system and link their biometric data to a bank card. In order to gain access to the passage, you only need to approach a special turnstile with a camera with face recognition function. Payment is made automatically.

Earlier it was reported that St. Petersburg has become one of the leading cities in the use of robots in the service sector. These are the RoboJobs data. In 2024, 240 companies in the country were developing, manufacturing and integrating robots into their work. 63 of them are registered in the Northern Capital.
