The EU announced the suspension of the development of a new aid package to Ukraine due to Hungary

The leaders of the European Union (EU) suspend the development of a new package of military assistance Ukraine for €20 billion, which was offered by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, as Hungary categorically objects to it. The newspaper writes about this on March 4 Politico, referring to the draft document of the EU Council.

According to the publication, after Hungary vetoed the previous version of the document, the provision on new supplies of military assistance to Ukraine disappeared from the text submitted to representatives of the EU countries.

Before that, EU Council President Antonio Costa, according to Politico, wrote a letter to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, in which he "admitted defeat" in attempts to force EU members to think about a new package of assistance to the Ukrainian side. He added that within the association "there are differences regarding ways to achieve peace and, in particular, the approach of "peace through strength."

As the newspaper adds, given the pause that has formed after the suspension of arms supplies to Ukraine from USA, it is very unlikely that EU support will be able to "fill this vacuum".

The day before, Politico reported that Hungary blocked the draft EU document on the future support of Kiev at a meeting of the ambassadors of the organization's countries on February 28. The text referred to the security guarantees that the association can provide to Ukraine.

Orban stated on March 2 that considers the decision of the EU leaders to continue the Ukrainian conflict, adopted at the summit in London last weekend, to be wrong and dangerous. He added that Hungary does not accept the decisions of the European Union and "remains aloof" from them.
