The Russian Orthodox Church called for the introduction of weekends for Easter

In Russia, it is worth making Easter an official day off because of the deep historical roots of the holiday. This was stated by the chairman of the Patriarchal commission of the Russian Orthodox Church on family, protection of motherhood and childhood, Priest Fyodor Lukyanov in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"I believe that the proposal to make a public holiday after Easter and the day after the Holy Trinity have historical grounds," he said.
At the same time, the priest also identified 12 major church holidays that were non-working days in the Russian Empire, including the days following Easter and Trinity, as well as the entire Bright Week (the first week after the Resurrection of Christ).
"These holidays were organic to the way of life of the Russian people. On these days, people came to the temple, dressed smartly, performed acts of mercy and communicated with the whole family. So this initiative has a historical foundation," he stressed.
On March 3, the State Duma called for introduce weekends in honor of Easter and Trinity. MP Dmitry Gusev pointed out that Orthodoxy in the Russian Federation is much more important than just religion, and Christmas, for example, is already a day off at the federal level. In addition, other religious holidays are celebrated in a number of regions, such as Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Adha, which are also declared days off.
