In Japan, the area of the largest forest fire since 1992 continues to increase for the sixth day in a row. As of March 4, the area covered by the fire is 2.6 thousand hectares, according to the TV channel NHK.

"Regarding the ongoing forest fire in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, the prefecture reported that as of 6:00 a.m. (00:00 Moscow time. On the morning of the 4th, the fire area increased to about 2.6 hectares," the TV channel reports.

Many people were involved in extinguishing the fire, as well as special equipment, including helicopters of the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

The day before, the area of the forest fire увеличилась up to 2.1 thousand hectares . It is specified that one person died as a result of forest fires, the number of missing is being clarified. About 90 residential and commercial buildings were also destroyed or damaged. At the same time, the drought is expected to persist in the city of Ofunato.
