- Denmark announced cooperation with the United States on security in the Arctic and Greenland

Denmark is in close cooperation with The United States to strengthen security in the Arctic and Greenland. This was announced on March 4 by the Permanent Representative of Denmark to the United Nations, Christina Marcus Lassen. The press conference was broadcast on the official the website of the world organization.
According to Lassen, this issue has, in particular, a climatic aspect, since new sea routes opening up due to climate change create additional challenges.
The Permanent Representative also informed that Denmark is actively working on these issues with NATO and other partners and has already adopted a new package of support measures to strengthen security in the region.
"Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders, and it is up to them to decide their future. Independence is possible, but Greenland remains an integral part of the Kingdom of Denmark, as it has been for centuries," she stressed.
Before that, on February 6, it was reported that Greenland's ruling party Siumut ("Forward") plans to href="https://iz.ru/1835199/2025-02-07/praviashchaia-v-grenlandii-partiia-namerena-initciirovat-golosovanie-o-nezavisimosti " target="_blank">hold a vote on independence after the general elections on March 11. The main issues of the election campaign were Greenland's desire for independence and its relations with Denmark and the United States under the administration of the President of the United States Donald Trump, who has repeatedly expressed a desire to get a strategically important island.
Earlier, on January 31, The Examiner newspaper reported on Trump's proposal href="https://iz.ru/1831551/2025-01-31/smi-uznali-ob-idee-nato-predlozhit-trampu-rasshirit-prisutstvie-v-arktike"> expand NATO's military presence in the Arctic. According to sources, the alliance believes that strengthening NATO's presence in the Arctic can satisfy security interests while ensuring U.S. participation in the new initiative.
