Minister of Defense USA Pete Hegseth ordered the army The United States to rename one of the largest military bases in the United States, Fort Moore, returning to its original name Fort Benning. This was reported on March 3 by Reuters.
The agency recalled that the base was renamed in 2023 due to protests for racial justice.By ordering the base to be named after Corporal Fred Benning, who fought in World War I, Hegseth was able to circumvent a congressional decree prohibiting bases from being named after the Confederates.
The base was originally named after Brigadier General Henry Benning, a Confederate who defended slavery.
