The NYT reported the loss of 19 out of 31 Abrams tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Armed Forces Ukraine (AFU) lost 19 Abrams tanks out of 31, the rest were withdrawn from the line of contact. This was reported on March 3 by The New York Times (NYT), referring to Ukrainian officials.
"Out of 31 high-tech Abrams tanks, which The United States supplied Ukraine in 2023, 19 were destroyed, disabled or captured. "... Almost all the others were withdrawn from the line of contact," the newspaper informed.
According to the NYT, despite the scale of Ukraine's production of drones, they cannot meet all the military needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and replace the demand for conventional weapons.
"Heavy artillery and other long-range weapons remain necessary for many reasons, including protecting troops and targeting command and control outposts or air defense systems," the newspaper added.
The media recognized on January 9 the inability of the United States to help Ukraine with arms supplies. The American authorities handed over ATACMS ballistic missiles, Abrams tanks and F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, but none of this helped Kiev turn the situation in the war zone in its favor.
Earlier, on December 5, 2024, former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are on the verge of collapse and are falling apart. According to him, the Ukrainian military began to surrender to the Russians in unprecedented numbers.
