The White House is studying plans for a possible lifting of sanctions against Russia, the administration is considering plans to ease restrictions. This was reported on March 3 by Reuters.

"The United States is developing a plan for potential easing of sanctions against Russia, as the president USA Donald Trump seeks to restore ties with Moscow and end the conflict on Ukraine," the agency's interlocutors informed.

According to the sources, the agencies are currently preparing a proposal to lift sanctions on certain legal entities and individuals so that US officials can discuss it with representatives of Russia in the coming days as part of the administration's extensive negotiations with Moscow to improve diplomatic and economic relations.

It is unclear exactly which sanctions against Russia the Trump administration will consider lifting first and what exactly Washington may demand in exchange.

According to John Smith, former head of the Office of Foreign Assets Control at the US Treasury Department, Trump may issue an executive order that will allow the administration to begin the process of easing some sanctions against Russia, but he will need to get congressional approval for this.

The decision to extend the restrictions against the Russian Federation for a year Trump accepted on February 27. It was noted that the document refers to restrictions imposed by the American side in 2014, 2018 and 2022.

At the same time, on February 26, Trump announced that in the future it would be considered href="https://iz.ru/1845192/2025-02-26/tramp-zaiavil-o-rassmotrenii-vozmozhnosti-sniatiia-sanktcii-s-rf-v-budushchem " target="_blank">the possibility of lifting American sanctions against Russia. He added that at the moment there are no such agreements.
