Chechnya declared three days of mourning in connection with the death of Buvaysar Saytiyev

By decree of the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov, three days of mourning were declared in the republic from March 3 to 5 in connection with the death of three-time Olympic champion Buvaysar Saytiyev. This was announced on March 3 by the Minister of National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information of the Republic Akhmed Dudayev.

"By decree of the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov, three days of mourning have been declared in the republic from March 3 to 5 in connection with the death of the outstanding athlete Buvaysar Saytiyev. These days, the national flags of the Russian Federation and the Chechen Republic will be lowered at half—mast throughout the region," he quotes TASS.

Saitiev's death at the age of 49 was announced on March 2 by Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation. He is one of the most decorated freestyle wrestlers. Saitiev became Olympic champion at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, in Athens in 2004 and in Beijing in 2008. In addition, he won the World and European Championships six times. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
