Austrian President swears in ANP leader Christian Stocker

Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen has sworn in Christian Stoker, leader of the Austrian People's Party (ANP), as chancellor. This was reported on March 3 by the newspaper Die Presse.
Stoecker will head a government made up of three political forces: the center-right Austrian People's Party (OVP), the Social Democratic Party (SPO) and the New Austria and Liberal Forum (NEOS).
"Austria must ensure peace through a sound security policy and play a confident role in the EU," the Austrian president said.
He also noted the importance of strengthening democratic institutions, ensuring economic stability and security. He highlighted migration control among the key tasks of the new government.
On January 4, Austrian Chancellor and head of the ANP Karl Nehammer announced that will leave his posts after the failure of negotiations on the creation of a ruling coalition following the parliamentary elections in September.
On January 5, Van der Bellen announced that in Austria the new chancellor will take office next week. He also noted that the new chancellor will perform the functions until the formation of a new cabinet of government.
