Internist, nutritionist and expert of the Dementia social project.net Elvira Fesenko told on March 3 "The newspaper.En" that intermittent fasting helps slow down brain aging, reduces the risk of dementia, and fights other age-related diseases of the nervous system.

Intermittent fasting is a dietary concept that involves repetitive cycles of fasting or calorie restriction and food intake. There are two main options for fasting. In the first one, it's the 5 diet.:2. You can eat as usual for the first five days, and reduce your calorie intake to 500-800 calories per day for the remaining two.

In the second option, the hours of meals are limited. They are allowed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or, conversely, in the range from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., the rest of the time you can only drink water or low-calorie drinks.

According to the study, intermittent fasting stimulates the processes of autophagy, a natural mechanism for "cleansing" cells.

"As a result, toxic beta-amyloid proteins are removed from brain cells, which are considered to be one of the main culprits in the development of Alzheimer's disease. These data open up new horizons in the fight against dementia and other age—related diseases of the nervous system," Fesenko said.

The nutritionist noted that it is necessary to choose the right interval nutrition individually and not practice it without the supervision of a doctor.

Earlier, on February 27, nutritionist and nutritionist Roman Pristansky stated that any fermented milk products It has a beneficial effect on improving the quality of bacteria in the stomach. He also added that fruits containing glucose have a beneficial effect on the body.
