The doctor warned about the dangers of using expired medicines

Medicines, as well as any products, have their own expiration date, after which they may lose their medicinal properties or receive toxic compounds. Pavel Chislov, a urologist and andrologist at SM Clinic, told about this on March 3 in an interview with "The newspaper.Ru".
"First of all, the expiration date is indicated on the package for a reason — it is the period during which the manufacturer guarantees the safety and effectiveness of the drug. After its expiration, the chemical composition of the drug may change, which will lead to a loss of therapeutic effect or even to the formation of toxic compounds," the expert said.
He clarified that after the expiration date, various antibiotics can become harmful to the kidneys, and their use can lead to poor health. People suffering from nephrological diseases should be especially careful about the use of such drugs, as they can cause death.
According to the doctor, painkillers can irritate the gastric mucosa, thereby increasing the risk of gastritis or ulcers if you do not monitor their expiration date.
In addition, he added that various liquid syrups, drops or suspensions eventually become a breeding ground for bacteria. You can get infected with anything when using them.
In addition, Chislov noted that if symptoms such as an allergic reaction, abdominal pain, nausea or dizziness appear after taking the medicine, then you should immediately consult a doctor. He added that if treatment with an ineffective drug does not help, it can lead to complications.
"Even if the medicine looks the same, you should not risk your health. Check your home medicine cabinet regularly and get rid of expired medications in a timely manner," the doctor concluded.
On March 2, Natalia Bordan, President of the Society of Bariatric Surgeons of Russia, MD, told Izvestia that in Russia href="https://iz.ru/1846828/2025-03-02/hirurg-rasskazal-o-posledstviah-beskontrolnogo-primenenia-tabletok-dla-pohudenia"> Sales of drugs originally intended for the treatment of diabetes, but actively used to reduce weight outside of indications, have increased dramatically. He reported on the consequences of uncontrolled use of such drugs and health risks.
