Three-time Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Buvaysar Saitiev has died at the age of 49. This was announced on Sunday, March 2, by Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation.
"It doesn't fit in my head. We were supposed to fly together tomorrow," he said TASS.
The Minister of the Chechen Republic for National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information, Akhmed Dudayev, confirmed the information to Izvestia.
Saitiev is one of the most decorated freestyle wrestlers. He became Olympic champion at the Atlanta Games in 1996, took gold in Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008. In addition, he won the World and European Championships six times.
