A balanced diet affects the functioning of the immune system, which needs vitamins, trace elements, amino acids and probiotics, rather than isolated dietary supplements and so-called superfoods. This was announced on March 2 by nutritionist Lilia Fedulova, Head of the Laboratory of Biologically Active Substances at the V.M. Gorbatov Federal Research Center for Food Systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to her, thanks to the complex effect, it is possible to improve the immune function of the body. This will provide protection from external pathogens and regulate inflammatory processes.

The expert stated that the Mediterranean diet, which includes the consumption of olive oil, fish, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, is an example of a balanced diet.

In addition, it is easier for the body to absorb nutrients from natural sources, such as animal or vegetable protein, as well as nuts and fermented foods. Therefore, the use of dietary supplements as the main tool for strengthening the immune system is not recommended, except in cases of proven deficiency of certain nutrients.

"It is important to avoid focusing on individual superfoods, as an excess of some nutrients can disrupt the absorption of others," said Fedulova.https://www.gazeta.ru/science/news/2025/03/02/25205162.shtml " target="_blank">"The newspaper.Ru».

Earlier, on January 29, the chief physician of the European Medical Center (EMC), Rosanna Gardashnik, told Izvestia that to strengthen immunity in the cold season, especially it is important to monitor nutrition, maintain an adequate level of physical activity, avoid stressful situations and observe the sleep regime. She added that excessive stress depletes the supply of cortisol and the body copes worse with subsequent stress, including infections and hypothermia.
