Ilya Sorokin, the Russian goalkeeper of the New York Islanders hockey club (HC), scored a goal against the Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season match. The match took place on March 1 and ended with a score of 7:4 in favor of the Russian team.

It is clarified that the goalkeeper deflected the shot, after which the Nashville player picked up the puck, made a transfer to his partner, but he could not process the pass and accidentally sent the puck into the goal. The author of the assist in this episode was Russian midfielder Alexander Romanov.

In hockey, according to the rules, there is no self-goal, and the throw was counted towards the player from the opposing team who was the last to touch the puck. Thus, Sorokin became the second goalkeeper in the history of his club to score a goal.

Earlier, on January 31, Russian goalkeepers of the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning Ilya Sorokin and Andrey Vasilevsky href="https://iz.ru/1831442/2025-01-31/sorokin-i-vasilevskii-voshli-v-chislo-zvezd-dnia-v-nkhl-posle-sukhikh-matchei">were among the stars of the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season day.
