An invasion attempt took place at a polling station in Tsandrypsha during the second round of the presidential elections in Abkhazia. This was announced on March 1 by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic.

It is specified that the attackers damaged the ballot box and fled the scene of the crime.

Dmitry Marshan, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Abkhazia, told reporters that a criminal case had been opened into the incident. According to him, the law enforcement officers who tried to stop the armed men at the Musser post had to use weapons. The situation is under control now.

As emphasized by RIA Novosti, two alleged attackers were detained and hospitalized after a shootout with the police.

On the same day, it became known that polling stations for voting in the second round of the presidential elections in Abkhazia completed their work at 20:00 Moscow time. The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the republic has begun counting votes. It was specified that the voter turnout by the time the polling stations were closed was about 70%.

Two candidates are running in the election — Badra Gunba and Adgur Ardzinba, who lagged behind him by 10% in the first round. 152 polling stations were operating throughout Abkhazia. As during the first round, the residents of the republic are active.
