Georgescu announced his intention to continue his struggle for the presidency of Romania

Romanian politician Calin Georgescu said at a rally in Bucharest that he would continue to fight for the presidency of the country. This was reported on March 1 by Digi24.

"I will continue the fight and submit the documents to register my candidacy for president. <..."I want all of you to choose, with your free vote, it's your right to decide who you choose," the politician stressed.

He also thanked the audience for 300,000 signatures in his support.

"I thank everyone who helped to hold today's action and demonstrated a true patriotic spirit. Together with them and with all Romanians who are tired of corruption and the influence of special services, we will take back our country!" the politician said.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that in Bucharest a protest action is taking place in support of Georgescu.

Georgescu on February 26 taken to the prosecutor's office for questioning. According to media reports, the Romanian presidential candidate is accused of falsifying statements about the sources of financing the election campaign. He was later released on his own recognizance.

The first round of the Romanian presidential election was held on November 24, 2024. According to official sources, Georgescu was in the lead with 22.94% of votes, but on November 28, the country's Constitutional Court demanded that the Central Election Commission recalculate the results. Their cancelled on December 6th. Repeated elections will be held in Romania on May 4. The second round is scheduled for May 18.
