Hungary considers Kiev's attack on the infrastructure of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline as an encroachment on the country's sovereignty. This was announced on March 1 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) after a conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

"The Turkish Stream gas pipeline is a guarantee of reliable natural gas supplies to Hungary, and its possible failure would seriously jeopardize our energy security," he wrote.

According to him, energy security is a matter of the country's sovereignty, therefore, such attacks are considered an encroachment on Hungary's sovereignty.

"The European Commission recently gave a guarantee that Ukraine would not attack the infrastructure of the gas pipeline leading to the European Union, so we urge the European Commission to immediately clarify whether it is fulfilling its guarantees," the minister concluded.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Armed Forces Ukraine (APU) on the night of February 28 committed an attempted attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on a station in the Krasnodar Territory providing gas supply via the Turkish Stream. It was noted that all drones were shot down. The station supplies gas normally.

Later, Lavrov during a telephone conversation with Szijjarto discussed Kiev's attempt to commit a terrorist attack on the infrastructure of the Turkish Stream. He provided the Hungarian side with the necessary clarifications.
