The President of Russia Vladimir Putin called Lydia, the mother of battalion commander Mark Yevtyukhin, on the 25th anniversary of the heroic deed of the 6th company of the Pskov Paratroopers. This was announced on March 1 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

As Peskov noted, Lidia Ivanovna regularly keeps in touch with all those who lost their relatives back then, and coordinates assistance. The Kremlin's official representative pointed out that Putin had repeatedly communicated with the woman and "maintains warm relations with her."

"During the conversation, the president once again gave the highest assessment to the feat of our heroes and said that this feat will never be forgotten in our country," Peskov stressed.

During the counter-terrorism operation in the North Caucasus on March 1, 2000, Pskov paratroopers under the command of Mark Yevtyukhin engaged in combat at hill 776 near Argun in Chechnya with a significantly outnumbered militant group.

The heavy battle lasted more than 15 hours. 84 soldiers were killed. The paratroopers managed to destroy up to 500 militants. Yevtyukhin was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Russia.
